In my ever growing quest to find ways to optimise the performance of my machine, I've come across a few nice little tools in the last few days that I need to share. Hawk Wings has posted a lovely instruction set on how to "vacuum" your Mail Envelope Index and speed up Mail. I was skeptical, and then I did it on my G5 and switching mailboxes went from taking 20 seconds per mail box to around 2. On my MacBook Pro, I have seen a quantifiable 20% performance increase in mail's responsiveness and activity. Now That's fast :-)
MailTags is a beautiful little app that lets you add meta-data to Email, look after appointments, to-dos and other such things that make iCal and Mail the killer apps they already should be! smcFanControl2is an update to the popular smcFanControl with a much better interface and wonderful preferences to ensure your Mac stays cool day in, day out. Add all this to Zimbra's iSync support (Network Edition only) and we've got a powerful groupware/collaboration tool that leaves Exchange for dead in terms of performance, ease of use and just general "niceness"™. All I need now is a way to sync to-do items between macs without upsetting Zimbra's calendar sync. |
