Format changing to become legal PDF Print E-mail
Written by Andrew Yager

I have previously discussed the legality of "fomat converting" music in Australia for playback on MP3 players or with iTunes in various forms. The Age newspaper has reported on the Federal Governments plans to make format changing legal in Australia which will mean that you can convert CD's, Magazine, Newspapers etc to MP3 (or other digital) format, and will also mean that it will become legal to record TV and Radio. The proposed changes to legislation are also good for Schools, Universities and cultural institutions (presumably including Churches) who will now be allowed to show copyrighted material for free, providing no profit is made. Police will be given greater powers to enforce copyright, including on the spot fines etc for copyright infringement.
